Thin books can move hard — liquidity note

Chaos Rising sealed held elevated into early June — and the louder mover tape this Monday sat in mid-era and alt-art singles with thin books. Launch premium on boxes is one story. Illustration rares and SARs clearing hard on light depth is another. Both showed up at once.
How the market was
A week after Chaos Rising’s street date, sealed was still printing premium. Chaos Rising booster boxes sat around ~$250 early June — still elevated off the May sealed #1 average we logged in Issue 09. That is hold, not a fresh leadership flip. The new signal was on the singles side.
Mid-era and alt-art names heated on completed-sale trends around May 27: Giratina V alt ~$824, Rayquaza VMAX ~$945, and Ascended Heroes Pikachu #276 ~$1,319. Those are real prints with real dollar marks — and they are exactly the kind of books that look like a broad chase wave until you ask how deep the tape is. Thin books can move hard in a few clears. They can also reverse without a sealed story changing underneath.
This week is a split read. Sealed (CR boxes) says the new set still commands a premium. Singles say capital is hunting illustration and mid-era chase where supply is scarce enough that a handful of sales set the print. We keep the liquidity note on the thin prints: don’t treat a spike as the market if completed depth isn’t there, and don’t let one loud SAR rewrite the sealed narrative.
Week over week vs Issue 09, the lead shifts from “new-set BB takes sealed #1” to “alt-art / mid-era thin books heating alongside a CR BB hold.” Different risk profile on the singles row.
This Monday’s tape is Pokémon sealed hold plus thin-book chase, unless a verified clear shows up in another game.

Week movers
- Pokémon — Mid-era / alt-art singles — Giratina V alt ~$824; Rayquaza VMAX ~$945; ASC Pikachu #276 ~$1,319 (May 27 trends). Confidence high.
- Pokémon — Chaos Rising booster box — Early June ~$250. Confidence high.
- Our read — Thin books can move hard; demote if depth isn’t there. Sealed hold ≠ singles depth.
Week over week
vs Issue 09 (Chaos Rising launch week): Launch leadership story → hold on CR boxes plus a second story in thin alt-art / mid-era books. Sealed still premium; the new risk is liquidity on the singles prints.
Worth watching
- Mid-era alts with completed sales (not asks alone)
- Ascended Heroes Pikachu #276
- Chaos Rising booster box
Note
Singles bands are trend prints with a liquidity caveat — not “the market” for every copy. No Celebration set.
